Since this is my second time around taking Blogging 201, I thought it would be a great idea to backtrack to the blog I previously wrote addressing goals.
Here is the excerpt from my previous blog, written Sept. 14, 2015:
Why do I blog?
To gain followers, to connect with others, to clarify my own thoughts and to self-publish
If your blog exceeded your wildest dreams, what would that look like? Would you have a different design? How many followers would you have? How much traffic? What sort of community would participate? How often would you post?
If my blog exceeded my wildest dreams, I would want it absorbed in warm and glorious colors. I would want words that ooze fluidity. I would want my theme to compliment my ideas. I love color, especially warm colors. I dream in color and expect everything I perceive to reflect color. I love my theme (design) because it is me and it is flexible. I would love to have many followers and a lot of traffic, only to enjoy my blogs as much as I enjoy theirs. I would participate in most any community with my favs being: quotes, poetry, art, cats, coffee, food, music, travel, and self-improvement. I would post once a week or more.
My Goals – I have more than three, so bear with me
-To identify my niche. I currently blog about things I enjoy, such as coffee, my surroundings, my travels. I lean toward the subject of coffee in all of my blogs.
-To master my theme. I want to learn more about what there is to offer and what I can and can’t do. I feel I am missing the boat on some of my theme’s technical aspects.
-Gain 20% more followers by September 31st. and increase average daily hits 30% by the end of 2015.
-Publish one time each week during September and October, and hopefully more than once a week.
-I already spend an hour each week visiting my followers’ blogs, reading and commenting.
-Establish a new weekly feature by September 30th. Yes! I really want to do this! It is just a matter of selecting what I want to do.
-Addressing the other goals shown in the first day 201 assignment:
-Create an editorial calendar for the next 90 days by July 31st.
-Gain 100 new Twitter followers by November 1st.
-Publish posts from three guests over the next three months.
I have identified my niche – good or bad – I like it. I blog to have fun, not to win popularity contests.
I have come a long way with my theme. I read and learn from others and then I tweak and tweak and tweak. I have set up a practice theme, which is a fabulous tool. I would recommend this, hands down.
I have gained more followers – I would say 20% more. I could look at the stats – maybe later as I am busy writing now.
Publish a blog one a week in September and October – YES! I met this goal.
Establish a new weekly feature by September 30th. YES! (looking very smug now – I can hardly stand myself). Check it out! https://dailypost.wordpress.com/events/tuesday-chatter/
I don’t use an editorial calendar. I use a google calendar and the Win 10 calendar, so enough calendars for now.
I haven’t really haven’t put much focus toward Twitter, however, I do have a Twitter account and 28 followers to date. I am working to grow on Twitter. It is a matter of divvying up my time as I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. I publish on LinkedIn, as well.
I have not published posts from any guests, however, I participate in the award nominations, in order to give fellow bloggers recognition. Also, my Tuesday Chatter Event is a way for fellow bloggers to have another source to display their talent in writing. Here’s the link- Tuesday Chatter.
I am pleased with my accomplishments and will continue to strive to improve and become a more amusing writer. I like being amusing, as I like being amused. I love fluidity and color and coffee, so there is my simple layout of favs. I believe taking Blogging 201 for the second time will give me even more of a keener sense of how I want to reach my goals.
A dark and quiet night
Words of wisdom from the sky
lost among shining stars
