Hugs

It’s not befuddling

Our love for cuddling

With purpose to share

And show that we care

A witless smile so smug

Envying desires to be snug

 Healing sorrows with a hug

Tuesday Chatter 64

168023-rock-on-purple-electric-guitar

While we’re having coffee, let’s ponder whether we’re certain or whether we’re doubtful about this and that. I’ve got a feeling this will be one of those thought-provoking chats. Perhaps even pointless.

Tuesday Chatter 64 brings to mind the year 1964, maybe before your time and if so I’m sorry you missed it. Here are a few highlights I gathered for 1964, which I list the credits at the bottom of this post.

U.S. President: Lyndon B Johnson. U.S. Population: 191,888.791, Life expectancy: 70.2 years, Cost of U.S. postage stamp 0.05, Gas per Gallon 30 cents, Loaf of bread 21 cents, Average Cost of new house $13,050.00, Average Cost of a new car $3,500.00,  Average Income per year $6,000.00, The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, Miss America: Donna Axum (AR), World Series: St. Louis Cardinals d. NY Yankees (4-3), World Population: 3.276 billion, Nobel Peace Prize: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (US)

And of course, there is our 1964 SS Chevy Impala, which some of my followers may be familiar with her diva-like ways. I discussed some of her shenanigans in my previous posts but she felt she was under the gossips stare so I thought it best to leave her to herself.

64 Impala

Ode to 1964

We were bitchin and bad

Never bummed out or sad

Life was a blast, a real gas

No room for a candyass

We were cats and chicks

We’d hang loose at flicks

Sometimes all decked out

We were cool and far out

No ratfinks or flakes

Hands down no fakes

We’d bug out and go cruising

but not for a bruising

We’d lay a patch with our ride

We had the fuzz on our side

Yep, we were fine as wine

We lived on Cloud 9

Hey, do you dig?

Don’t flip your wig!

Lay it on me now and

Don’t have a cow

Later man and be cool.

And some useful but perhaps useless information

January 23rd is Handwriting Day. Wow, handwritten notes and letters are almost a thing of the past, a lost art one might say. With computers, tablets and cell phones, handwriting is dwindling and not the first choice in communication. It’s unfortunate and I hope putting the pen to paper doesn’t come to naught. I feel handwriting adds such a personal touch as a method to send thank you notes, invitations, and personal letters, do you agree?

Dreams Enabled

 Clouds of dreams we wince

Ourselves we must convince

Aspects of life our perception

Subject to whose interpretation?

Still, for our minds to receive

Indubiously we must believe

Dreams our mind must enable

If only to proclaim a fable

 We’ve been hoodwinked

is what I think

Birds chirping, singing

Fragile buds flowering

Trees no longer cowering

Mother nature in her glory

Sends a confusing story

Hapless souls in an icy path

Enduring winter’s frigid wrath

Other folks swathed in sun

Loving life and having fun

Mother nature perdures to amaze

Her persona obviously crazed

Moving forward

Embarking on a new year can be exciting, yet we sometimes hesitate to jump in with both feet. So, where is the why to this? Well, whether we make resolutions or not, surely we set goals for ourselves. There are to-dos, bucket lists, things I should have done last year and things I want to do this year over and above the to-dos. And stuff in general, such as home improvements or self-improvements.

Back to my question about why we sometimes hesitate to take that first dive off a high dive is it can be overwhelming. So overwhelming that we procrastinate or deep six our idea(s) altogether. Long story short, the moral of my story can be summed up in a pertinent quote by John Bytheway, which brings me to my to-dos and that is to take a one step at a time approach to my goals.

“Inch by inch. life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life’s hard” – John Bytheway

Whew, all that thinking about goals is tiring, so tiring I feel a celebration coming on. Yes, a celebration about nothing! Jan. 16th is Nothing Day. Let yourself take in what the day commemorates – nothing.

“Nothing Day has been commemorated since 1973. The day is literally about doing nothing at all, placing it in a similar vein to other such surreal non-occasions as an Un-Birthday or Buy Nothing Day. There is absolutely no purpose or intended structure for this pointless celebration.”

“As it is all about expending no effort on celebrating absolutely nothing, Nothing Day can also be about celebrating life itself. The only limits on how the day is spent are the imagination and bank balance of the participant.”*

Reflection

Elders wisdom they wish to share

Often more than children can bare

Valuable words and not too fancy

Fall on ears of those too antsy

But lessons learnt not a total waste

Mind tools emerge as a copy/paste

The Need for Ease

Hums of serendipity soften the fall

A snapshot of life won’t reveal it all

Souls adrift miss the beckoning call

Desperately we pretend to be believed

Feelings of desolation to be relieved

These are photos from the balcony of our back porch. We had more ice than snow, which makes it difficult to get around, however, this is minor compared to other snow events in the U.S. and other parts of the world. I hope your neck of the woods is tolerable if you live in a wintry part of the world.

Life is like a menu

Unleash options within you

Be grateful for life’s ride

Cast chaotic moments aside

Consider life as a gift

Tethered not to go adrift

Hurdles cower to your stride

Let wisdom be your guide

Be aware of new beginnings

In advance of their endings

Moving On

January 9th is Static Electricity Day and relevant to wool wearers and those who like to pet their furry friends. Static electricity can add some unexpected spark to your life.

Static electricity is formed when two insulators are rubbed together, generating a static field of imbalanced positive and negatively charged ions. When the now charged insulators come into contact with a conductor (like metal, for instance) the charge is released. And this is why you get shocked when you grab a door-handle after crossing a room in wool socks!

Amidst all of the hullabaloo

Our dreams may be extinguished

But, as individuals we are distinguished

By how we pen our own chapter

By a spell, thus false feeling rapture

Mapping our journey to our destinations

May save us from shocking revelations
