Levanger – Elvestien

The municipality of Levanger – charming.

See Norway - Se Norge

img_4314-bThe municipality of Levanger is located by the Trondheimsfjord s bit North of the ‘City of Trondheim’, and this area has a population of approximately 13 000 people. This report, however’ is by no means inteded to give a full coverage from ‘Levanger’, but merely kind of a ‘taster’ of what’s to come. With a little bit of luck and good will, we may probably…

Tuesday Chatter 69

While we’re having coffee, let’s take the time to chat about 1969. Sit down and put your feet up for a spell because this is going to be one of those chats.

Let’s begin with those famous words “That’s one step for man, one giant leap for mankind” that marks the Apollo II mission by the US, where man first landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the moon. Neil Armstrong uttered the famous line, which was heard around the world.

Some other major happenings were the Boeing jumbo jet 747 makes its debut, and for those that love cars, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is introduced, a popular American muscle car. 1969 was a happening year for rock and roll fans with music coming from some of rock and roll’s greatest groups – Led Zepplin, The Doors, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. In fact, The Beatles performed their last public appearance on the roof of Apple records in 1969. Another major music event in 1969 was Woodstock, which attracted more than 350,000 fans.

Here are some interesting statistics for the year 1969, which compared to today’s cost of living is mind boggling. Just look at the cost of a house in 1969 compared to January 2017 where the median sales price for a house is $312,900 and the average is $360,900. Wow, what a difference!

Moving on in time nineteen sixty-nine

Perhaps, too soon says the fingernail moon

Your presence makes me shiver, I’m all a quiver

Oh the horror of mankind treading on my face

I’ve folded into a sliver amidst a dark space

Neath the sapphire sky I’ve reason to hide

Silly rules of mankind I don’t wish to abide

Mankind’s slapdash ways create a murky haze

Scattered mishmash of frowns and devastation

Condemned in absentia seeking salvation

Says the fingernail moon, perhaps not too late

My pull on the tides predetermines one’s fate

Opinions vs. Facts

Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong.  Presented with conflicting information, accepting the new evidence would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable (called cognitive dissonance)

And because it is so important to protect that core belief, they will rationalize, ignore, and even deny anything that doesn’t fit with the core belief.~ Franz Fanon, Free Your Mind and Think

Confirmation Bias

There has been a great deal of research and writing on the implications of the concept of confirmation bias. I have often referred to the concept here on ADDandSoMuchMORE.com, so many of my regular readers are already familiar with the expression.

Exceptional and brilliant sunset.

See Norway - Se Norge

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYes, it’s all about a passing sunset from yesterday, but this time the clouds had a structure that my camera refused to focus on!  So be as it may, but at least I managed to record the colors for you!

Tuesday Chatter 68

124182-keep-calm-and-rock-on

While we’re having coffee, let’s reminisce about the year 1968. Have a seat because this is going to be one of those chats.

To begin, 1968 was a year of protests. The protests of 1968 were a worldwide escalation of social conflicts mostly characterized by rebellions against the military and bureaucratic elites. 1968 was a tumultuous year in the United States and abroad.  Wikipedia offers an interesting account of The Protests of 1968 (link at the end of this post).

How much did things cost in 1968? Well, here are the stats for the U.S including a few for the UK.  How about this interesting tidbit – the first Big Mac goes on sale in McDonalds costing 49 cents. Now, the Big Mac, itself can cost anywhere from $3 to $5, depending on what city you live in.
Average Cost of new house $14,950.00, Average Income per year $7,850.00,Average Monthly Rent $130.00, Gas per Gallon 34 cents, Average Cost of a new car $2,822.00, Movie Ticket$1.50

Touching on some news and events in 1968 – the assassination of Martin Luther King, the Civil Rights Act of 1968, Emergency 911 Telephone Service is started in the US, Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble, France, Anti-Vietnam war protests, the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy, The Beatles release The White Album, The Beatles record “Hey Jude” and create Apple Records, the CBS news magazine program “60 Minutes” is shown for the first time, which I am just touching the surface of the happenings in 1968. (information obtained from, The People History, link at the end of this post).

Life may be viewed through a magical lens

But, not everyone can buy a Mercedes Benz

It’s easy to become smitten on a masquerade

It’s simple to camouflage the leader of the parade

It’s difficult to believe the players in charades

Our world is in a twirl with misshaped ideation

A preponderance of ifs left to the imagination

Creating fumes of thoughts left to speculation

Norwegian Wood

Beautiful icy images

See Norway - Se Norge

In the year 1965 the rock group  ‘The Beatles’ launched a melody with the name ‘Norwegian Wood’,  and since then this melody has become an evergreen that seemingly will last forever. That’s why I find it very suitable as a title for this post where I present you with a number of winter pictures from the woods ion my iminent neighbourhood.

It has been somewhat foggy in our parts lately and the night…

Stormy Sunset

Stormy sunsets – stunning.

See Norway - Se Norge

A couple of days ago the remains of a tropical storm in the Arlantic Ocean passed over Norway. Some of it struck the area where I live as well, and – just at the time of an expected sunset. Under such conditions a sunset may evolve into something out of the ordinary, and , of course, I…

Enchanting photo

See Norway - Se Norge

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe were fortunate enough to get a spot of sunlight today, but of course – not without a spot of fog on the horizon. Still good enough to tempt me to look for motives fitting the time of year. I think this close-up of a Norwegian wood with its long icy needles is a good example from Norwegian nature this time of the year?

 Hey, you!

Keep your gawking at bay as I sashay and sway
