Hmmm, there’s nothing better than a thought-provoking chat over a great cuppa coffee. Let’s talk about this and that and figure out where it’s at or do we really want to know?

Tidbits from the year 1976

The average cost of new house $43,400.00, average income per year $16,000.00, average month rent $220.00, a gallon of gas 59 cents. No surprise as inflation is on the rise.

Bring the man in the moon an order of fries

Oh, don’t forget Mars and the Viking 1 Lander

Windows of opportunity as man takes a gander

Disease and droughts, tidal waves and quakes

History in the making needs to go on break

It’s time for the US Presidential election

A peanut farmer from Georgia is the selection

We got a brand new Apple and it’s not from Eve

The creative Steves had smarts up their sleeves

We got a new genre of music, ain’t life grand

Let’s lend an ear to Punk Rock bands

Persistent inflation never goes but comes at will

The US saves the day with the two dollar bill

Let’s bribe the Bay City Rollers to guide us uphill

Another hullabaloo year gifting life with a thrill

1976 was a stepping stone year for me. On my thirtieth birthday, I got a divorce, my father passed away (he was 85 and led a good life), and I became a single soul. I have no siblings so it was me, myself and I, and survival. I got out of the “poor me” feelings in about a week and started moving on.

I had friends, a job and a place to live. I discovered a new life and a slew of great places to dance and party. The disco era was “in” and I loved it.  I was still living in Orlando but felt it was time to discover new and different things, thus my move to South Florida. Orlando was still getting used to the impact of Disney, and a lot of us folks that were born and/or raised there still had that small town attitude.

Well, that all changed when I moved to South Florida. I learned a lot and saw an abundance of opportunities, which the next 10 years were productive years for me, personally and professionally. I have no regrets making one of the biggest decisions of my life. 1976 was a good year for me.

  1. Yes remember this year too.. my Son was one yr old.. And yes Jimmy Cater was the USA president.. and
    Jim Callaghan was our PM…

Lots of things were changing then.. Including high interest rates that about crippled us in our mortgage at the time.. But we struggled on… And got through some tough years when my children were small..
    Thanks for the memories

Hope Easter was a peaceful one..
    Love and Blessings

  2. I was a year out of high school and madly in love with my first real boyfriend. Daddy had just retired so I had lots of time with him and Mama. College was an eye-opener for me. I’d lived in a small town and gone to private schools all my life so the sheer number of other students was overwhelming.

  3. It is nice to hear about what was happening in the US in 1976. I was fourteen and just about to enter the fray as a punk rocker. As far away from Shang a Lang as you could imagine 🙂

  4. This was indeed an interesting year. I remember my grandad flew in Concorde in the 80’s (lucky him) ha ha! What a hectic time for you, I love seeing how music and it’s culture helped you through such a difficult time in your,Eugenia the ultimate Queen of the disco biscuits! 😀
