Tuesday Chatter 76

Hmmm, there’s nothing better than a thought-provoking chat over a great cuppa coffee. Let’s talk about this and that and figure out where it’s at or do we really want to know?

The average cost of new house $43,400.00, average income per year $16,000.00, average month rent $220.00, a gallon of gas 59 cents. No surprise as inflation is on the rise.

Fidel Castro becomes The President of Cuba, NASA debuts the first space shuttle, the Enterprise, Apple Computer Company is formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, The Olympics, broadcast from Montreal, Canada, draw an estimated one billion viewers worldwide. World population 4.378 billion, US celebrates Bicentennial (July 4), Super Bowl- Pittsburgh d. Dallas, World Series-Cincinnati d. NY Yankees.

Ah, the year nineteen-seventy-six

Let’s fly on the Concorde and pick up sticks

Mom nature gifts US with Hurricane Belle

Shambled moments for farmer in the dell

Again making history we gallop through space

A quick sand mindset to keep the pace

Nice to meet you mister Enterprise

Bring the man in the moon an order of fries

Oh, don’t forget Mars and the Viking 1 Lander

Windows of opportunity as man takes a gander

Disease and droughts, tidal waves and quakes

History in the making needs to go on break

It’s time for the US Presidential election

A peanut farmer from Georgia is the selection

We got a brand new Apple and it’s not from Eve

The creative Steves had smarts up their sleeves

We got a new genre of music, ain’t life grand

Let’s lend an ear to Punk Rock bands

Persistent inflation never goes but comes at will

The US saves the day with the two dollar bill

Let’s bribe the Bay City Rollers to guide us uphill

Another hullabaloo year gifting life with a thrill

1976 was a stepping stone year for me. On my thirtieth birthday, I got a divorce, my father passed away (he was 85 and led a good life), and I became a single soul. I have no siblings so it was me, myself and I, and survival. I got out of the “poor me” feelings in about a week and started moving on.

I had friends, a job and a place to live. I discovered a new life and a slew of great places to dance and party. The disco era was “in” and I loved it.  I was still living in Orlando but felt it was time to discover new and different things, thus my move to South Florida. Orlando was still getting used to the impact of Disney, and a lot of us folks that were born and/or raised there still had that small town attitude. Well, that all changed when I moved to South Florida. I learned a lot and saw an abundance of opportunities, which the next 10 years were productive years for me, personally and professionally. I have no regrets making one of the biggest decisions of my life. 1976 was a good year for me.

I enjoy your reminisce, Eugenia. I used to stay that I would get to fly the Concorde when I grew older, unfortunately, they stopped it and denied me that possibility of pursuing that goal 😉

It is unfortunate it was stopped. I had that dream, as well. Thank you for commenting.

Yes remember this year too.. my Son was one yr old.. And yes Jimmy Cater was the USA president.. and
    Jim Callaghan was our PM…

Lots of things were changing then.. Including high interest rates that about crippled us in our mortgage at the time.. But we struggled on… And got through some tough years when my children were small..
    Thanks for the memories

Hope Easter was a peaceful one..
    Love and Blessings

I was only seven in 1976, but I still love disco music and much of the music from that decade. 🙂

Disco music was fun. The clothes were glitzy and wacky. Dancing became more popular. It was a happy time in music and a lot of the music and the beat was and still is addicting.

I was a year out of high school and madly in love with my first real boyfriend. Daddy had just retired so I had lots of time with him and Mama. College was an eye-opener for me. I’d lived in a small town and gone to private schools all my life so the sheer number of other students was overwhelming.

I can relate. College was an eye opener for me. I was in a different state, away from from parents, didn’t know anyone yet, but then I found all of the newbies had those same feelings. I was fine in a couple of days. 😃

It is nice to hear about what was happening in the US in 1976. I was fourteen and just about to enter the fray as a punk rocker. As far away from Shang a Lang as you could imagine 🙂

I got into the punk rocker scene as well. I lived in Tampa and had a fun punk rocker friend. We flew to Atlanta and danced the night away at the Limelight, which was the hot place to go back in the day. 😀

This was indeed an interesting year. I remember my grandad flew in Concorde in the 80’s (lucky him) ha ha! What a hectic time for you, I love seeing how music and it’s culture helped you through such a difficult time in your,Eugenia the ultimate Queen of the disco biscuits! 😀
