I wake at dawn. The sun, it wakes too. Over the hills, colours fill a template. It’s quiet, the dog looks at me, no not time for a walk yet, she knows.
Sounds begin to enter this stillness and mark the timetable of day. Birds chirp on sturdy branches, a welcome greeting, bringing news from afar.
A squirrel calls out to its mate, a pair, they rise early too. I look at them, contentment in their partnership.
Mist rises from trees
breathes life over sleepy earth
sun, warm from the East
