The Great Divide

once upon a time

I dressed in my best

pretty pinks in spring

summer, my best greens

amber-gold in fall

my winter whites glowed

strong and sturdy, me

a respected tree

til my last farewell

calming by nature

chaos by mankind

  1. This is really great Eugi. Thank you so much for the dedication and shout out! That tree looks like it has been scalped a few times. Too bad it is now gone!

    • My pleasure, Dwight! We saw it once when it had leaves and it still had that split in the middle. It was definitely a conversation piece.

  2. Well done, Eugi!

  3. Lovely poem Eugi.

  5. One would think, that around power lines, especially in newer developments that either slow trees or short trees would be planted. It distresses me when a beautiful tree has to be trimmed for the sake of saving a power line.

But…Trees, while they may have a long life (some longer than others) do not live forever. A relative had a tree knocked down by a strong wind and was able to plant another in pretty much the same spot.

Lovely verse. Oh, I also knew of an old Japanese maple that was going to be torn down for road work… but the residents of the retirement community banded together to have the 100 (or maybe 50) year old tree transplanted. And it survived the transplant!!

    • In this case the property was sold and the tree came down. We noticed it was gone when we last visited Blue Ridge in 2019. I am glad to hear the old Japanese maple was transplanted and it survived! It was meant to be!

  6. What we would do without trees. Beautifully expressed.

  7. I just traveled through the year wonderfully. Beautifully done.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥
