My Opinion is…

Constructive criticism can be utter bosh

Unfolding ideas almost awash

High fives questioned as awes or flaws

Is it wise to hide our guffaws

Or raise our voice to quash the cause

Tuesday Chatter 88

14030-Beach-In-A-Jar

Please come in and welcome to the Tuesday Chatter Cafe. A place where the clock ticks backward and we can chat about what may or may not happen. We dwell on thought-provoking and undeniably doubtful drivel.

1988, an interesting year for technology with the first transatlantic cable which was able to carry 40,000 phone calls at the same time. Great strides being made by technology creating a more communicative world, however, not without increased vulnerability. The first major computer virus infects computers. The US Stealth Bomber debuts. Lazer eye surgery is invented.

NASA resumes the Space Shuttle Program 2 1/2 years after the Challenger disaster, the Summer Olympics are held in Soule, South Korea, the Winter Olympics are held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. US average cost of new house $91,600 and the average annual income $24,450. A Ford Taurus is $9,996. and it’s .91 per gal. to fill it up.

1988 was a good year for movies – Rain Man, Beetlejuice, Crocodile Dundee II, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Die Hard, to name a few. I saw Rain Man a few times and still feel the acting by Dustin Hoffman was superb.

I have a little bit of personal trivia to share and that is I met the black jack dealer that was in Rain Man. We traveled to Vegas frequently and met him while playing black jack before he had a role in the movie. Then we saw him again after the movie, and he was the same fun dealer with many new stories to tell.

I attached a name to my whacky poetry style – Knick Knack Yak!

 Ah, the beat goes on

That same old song

Needs to be restrung

Hey, I’ve just begun

Oh snap, get a grip

It’s gonna to be a long trip

Life has a two-fold meaning

We gotta keep singing

I feel the beat, it moves my feet

Don’t let the chinwag sag

It’s not cool when you brag

Be a dear, be sincere

This isn’t yesteryear

Don’t let words of ire

Fuel a senseless fire

Seek your inner soul

And let the social dice roll

Tuesday Chatter 87

Please come in and welcome to the Tuesday Chatter Cafe. A place where the clock ticks backward and we can chat about what may or may not happen. We dwell on thought-provoking and undeniably doubtful drivel.

The US population reaches approximately 244,000,000 and the world population is approximately 5,000,000,000. The long period of financial growth in the US is interrupted by a US Stock Market crash, which triggers stock market falls around the world. The gap continues to widen between the average cost of a new house at $92,000 and an average annual income of $24,000. The price of a new car is over $10,000. and to fill up your car is .89 a gallon.

A 5.0 earthquake shakes up 14 states in the US and in Canada, the Great Southern British Storm with hurricane force winds slam southern England, leaving a destructive path.

Kitty litter debuts in the US, as well as prozac. We’ve come a long way, haven’t we? Remember the televangelist Jim Bakker scandal and The Simpsons? The Simpsons made their debut on TV in 1987.

Aretha Franklin, known as “The Queen of Soul” is inducted into the Hall of Fame. Aretha can still belt it out at 75 years old. One of her well-known songs, “Respect” is still heard today. The Fox Broadcasting Company makes its debut, which was founded in 1986. Michael Jackson comes out with his “Bad” album, and Janet Jackson debuts her “Let’s Wait Awhile” single.

Nothing major happened in my life in 1987. I lived in Hollywood, FL and while I loved the city, I didn’t care for the heat. So, I don’t have much yesteryear news about me, but some back in the day trivia – did you know Days of our Lives won The 3rd Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1987?

I wasn’t a daytime soap opera fan and I remember my mother wasn’t into these shows either. We preferred to listen music but some of the soaps have some real longevity for example, The Guiding Light. According to my sources, this show is the longest running soap touting more than 15,000 episodes. The show dropped (The) in the 1960s and is currently known as Guiding Light.

Some of the other long running soaps are As the World Turns, General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, One Life to Live, All My Children, just to name a few. I don’t know what made me think of soap operas, and I don’t have a clue about the number of fans they draw but they obviously are a popular source of entertainment.

Aside from what you think

we could both be wrong

 There’ll be no win

without the big spin

Don’t copy/paste the same old song

Let’s shun insipid trepidation

defining The 3 Pillars of Persuasion

Make the best of your given situation

Life’s not pie ala mode, you know

Don’t ponder the drivel, just give it go

You know when your famous

When you can fold a fitted sheet

Hey, playground bully, you can take a seat!

No listening to your excuse

or taking your abuse

Do not machine wash or tumble dry?

There’s no reward for not being clean

It’s not for me to know and you to ask why

Is it knock knock or knick knack?

It’s the gasp I can’t grasp

I’m hitchin a ride over the moon

Hey, shut the light when you leave the room

Tuesday Chatter 65

While we’re having coffee, let’s take a break from what we can’t control. Sometimes pointless chatter can eventually take on a form of positive energy.

Let’s begin with some trivia relevant to January, which is coming to an end. I’m glad to see this month go – how about you? Besides some eventful happenings, I feel January is a rather dreary and drab month. But others may feel differently depending on their lifestyle and likes and dislikes, etc.

Monday, Jan. 30th is Bubble Wrap Day! Don’t you just love these unnecessary holidays? Who comes up with these ideas, anyway? Probably “they” – you know what I mean because we don’t know so we pin the blame on “they” for lack of a known entity.

Bubble wrap is used for protecting delicate items while in the process of being shipped. Now it’s touted for other uses, for example, a toy or a stress reliever. And here’s an interesting fact about Bubble Wrap…

Each year Bubble Wrap hosts a ‘Young Inventor’ award that encourages them to find ways to use Bubble Wrap outside of packaging. Whether you need a Bubble Wrap door cover to help you keep out the dings, or a Bubble Wrap cushy wheelchair to ensure your loved ones are safe from every danger, these young inventors work every year to try to create the newest Bubble Wrap rage.

The world isn’t a gift, you know

All tied up with a pretty bow

With how-tos on what to sow

Unfolding what we may reap

The unknown can make us weep

Sweeping ideas under the rug

Creativity forbade by the smug

A colorless world it would be

If not shared by you and me

Encasing the world in bubble wrap

Blurs the task for this and that

Our realization of imperfection

Will fuel throes of a revelation

By the way, the earth isn’t flat

-Eugenia

Tuesday Chatter 86

Please come in and welcome to the Tuesday Chatter Cafe. A place where the clock ticks backward and we can chat about what may or may not happen. We dwell on thought-provoking and undeniably doubtful drivel.

1986, a troubled year with some of the worst tragedies in history. The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger watched by people worldwide, killing all 7 astronauts aboard, the Soviet Nuclear disaster at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station, and the mad cow disease in the UK are just a few of the horrific events that happened in 1986.

But a lot of interesting events occurred in 1986-  Hands Across America, a large public charity event is held in May. Approximately 6.5 million people participated. The $10. donations were given to local charities to fight poverty. Mike Tyson becomes the youngest Heavyweight Champion in history, the Oprah Winfrey Show makes its debut in the US, the Soviet Union launches it’s MIR space station, Richard Branson breaks the world record for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic on his 72 ft powerboat, the Virgin Challenger II, smoking is banned on all public transport including trains, planes, buses, and coaches in the US.

Are we jealous or mediocre

No shows won’t know

Class not dismissed and on with the show

More than one hand to clap

Less than two fingers to snap

Great minds work trenches

No more room on benches

As we trolley through space

Last stop’s a perfect place

People hold hands across the land

We’ve much to give to help others live

There’s no smoking on that plane

Nor the bus nor the train

We’ve nuttin to lose and a lot to gain

No matter what we do there’s much askew

Have a nice day and toodle-loo
